One problem Bhanu Choudhrie wants to help change is the fact that there are too few women in aviation. In fact, female flight attendants significantly outnumber female pilots. Although this can be disheartening, Choudhrie has set his mind to improving things for women.
Why There Are Fewer Women in Aviation
When one thinks of pilots, women may not come to mind. This is because men usually dominate this career. This mindset often makes it even more challenging for women to find a job in aviation. After all, women enjoy being the primary caregivers of their families and often like to stay home to care for their children. This leaves them little time to pursue the role of a pilot and a successful career. Besides this, women in the Middle East usually aren’t supposed to work at night. This tradition has kept them from being pilots and working longer hours. But this tradition will be a thing of the past because of new legislation in Saudi Arabia that lets women work at night. Indeed, only five percent out of the 290,000 commercial pilot jobs worldwide are women. Bhanu Choudhrie sees this lack of females in the cockpit as an opportunity to encourage women to have these types of jobs.
How Things are Changing for Women
Women who have been less privileged have a greater chance to pursue their goals. For one, pilot training schools are providing them with more flexibility and affordable classes to get a pilot education. A higher increase in female pilots means young women will have more role models to inspire them.
