Introduction
The International School Ho Chi Minh City: American Academy (ISHCMCA) is a US-based, nonprofit organization whose mission is to establish and operate an independent international school for American and international families in Ho Chi Minh City. We will offer a high-quality liberal arts curriculum focused on developing the whole person – intellectually, morally, spiritually, and physically. Our campus is centrally located, with easy access to all areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
ISHCMCA received official status from the Vietnamese Ministry of Education in November 2007. The school opened its doors for the 2008-2009 school year on September 7, 2008, and has provided an education for several students from the United States and Canada.
We are dedicated to a rigorous academic program designed to prepare our students for success by offering a rigorous curriculum and fostering excellence in academics, arts, athletics, and community service.
Our curriculum is based on the Waldorf School of North America (WSA) model, and we work closely with WSA to help ensure that our school program meets the rigorous standards of a Waldorf-inspired education. We are proud to be a member of the American Waldorf School Conference (AWSC) and look forward to offering amazing opportunities for our students.
In addition to a challenging curriculum, ISHCMCA offers an unusual feature for a school in South East Asia – the opportunity to learn English and French as a Second Language. Highly-qualified native English and French speakers teach classes.
The philosophy behind Waldorf education is based on the idea that all students are unique individuals with different strengths, weaknesses, and interests. Education then becomes an ongoing process of encouraging children to develop their innate abilities to be happy and successful adults.
