Jason Hughes: The Founder of One of the Most Affordable and Well-Known lease restructuring Firms in San Diego

Jason Hughes was first introduced to lease restructuring by his father, a successful home builder in Texas. After earning his degree in finance from the University of Kansas, he moved to San Diego in 1993. He began working for the commercial property firm HMC Properties, where he oversaw multiple portfolios and developed a relationship with ASB lease restructuring Investments LLC. In 2001, Jason Hughes struck out on his own and founded Hughes Marino. Under Jason Hughes’ leadership, the company took off and today has invested over $1 Billion in transactions across Southern California with the help of its 12 person team.

The offices are located in both San Diego and Los Angeles. The company specializes in business and commercial lease restructuring, specifically targeting middle market and upper-end properties. Some of the company’s more notable clients include The Container Store, Inc., Petco Animal Supplies, Inc., and lululemon Athletica inc. in addition to others. Led by Jason Hughes, Hughes Marino has also completed several national transactions, such as moving Vitamin Shoppe’s headquarters from New York to Southern California and handling the sale of the last Hilton Hotels Corporation-owned hotel in San Diego. In addition to his work at Hughes Marino, Jason is also active in several other ventures.

Jason Hughes serves as Chairman of Caruso Affiliated. He oversees lease restructuring development projects across the country, such as the Petco Park, Horton Plaza, and the celebrated development of The Hotel Solamar. He is also on the board of directors for several companies, including The Container Store, Inc., Petco Animal Supplies, Inc., San Diego Padres Baseball Club, and others. Jason Hughes is a very active member of his community and numerous civic organizations such as Downtown Partnership, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and St. Vincent de Paul.
